Overview
The operational needs of Science Hill are changing and expanding as the University invests in new research areas and facilities. Reporting to the Science Hill Trade Supervisor, with shared oversight from the Associate Director of Engineering, with latitude to exercise a high level of independent judgment and initiative. The Senior Mechanical Engineer provides technical direction, project management, subject matter expertise, and communication in support of mechanical and energy systems of the University’s capital program and campus operations focused on Science Hill.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will interact with Yale’s operations personnel, planning and project management staff, and consulting professionals, and will focus on developing innovative projects to support high-need research environments, laboratory safety, and resilient operations toward the University’s many goals and climate commitment.

Skills and Abilities
- PE, CEM or LEED AP
- Experience with building system design and operation including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems and equipment, energy performance modeling, and applicable regulatory frameworks.
- Experience with central utilities and cogeneration plants including plant equipment, distribution, metering, and applicable regulatory frameworks.
- Experience with commissioning processes and principles from project formulation through turnover, and performance diagnostics.
- Experience with managing projects and teams of consulting design professionals.
- Experience with solving complex technical problems, developing engineering standards and processes, and managing projects and teams of consulting design professionals.
