Overview

Facilities and Campus Development is seeking a Campus Planner assigned to a variety of portfolios and capital projects, including Central Campus, Yale School of Medicine, Yale School of Public Health, and West Campus. The Campus Planner manages and leads a diverse team of third‑party contracted registered professional Architects, Engineers, and Construction Management firms, delivering a portfolio of high‑quality capital projects on time and on budget, with a strong emphasis on job site safety.

Expected portfolios include 10‑20 projects with a total value of $50–$100 million. With both a project and program‑level perspective, the planner delivers the design and construction of assigned projects, effectively engaging with stakeholders to ensure client satisfaction through successful building turnover to operations.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Develop planning models based on department needs and institutional priorities.
  • Participate in the resolution of planning and technical conflicts, recommending cost‑effective options.
  • Ensure institutional planning objectives and strategies are incorporated into departmental plans and projects.
  • Prepare succinct presentations that distill complex project issues into distinct, clear options to support informed decision‑making.
  • Establish priorities for the allocation of design resources; provide information and recommendations on physical and comprehensive planning and design issues, large‑scale planning studies, and special facilities planning topics.
  • Manage and review the progress and quality of work performed by outside and in‑house consultants.
  • Act as the primary contact among project architects, consultants, committees, technical and operations groups, and staff during the planning phase.
  • Provide advice to ensure conformity with specifications, codes, regulations, and University design standards; develop engineering and architectural program requirements.
  • Resolve conflicting issues with consultants, project scope, budgets, and schedules.
  • Develop overall project budgets (construction, consultant and other fees, furnishings, equipment, operations and testing costs); manage consultant selection.
  • Ensure projects in the planning phase are completed within the approved budget and schedule, and meet applicable codes and zoning ordinances.

    Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of architectural planning, design, and construction processes; solid technical knowledge of data collection, analysis, and interpretation for executive decision making (including ROI) and feasibility studies.
  • Advanced team‑building skills, strong written and oral communication, ability to make effective presentations to key stakeholders, and business analysis and negotiation skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, eBuilder, and construction scheduling software; project cost management and experience with eBuilder, Procore, Unifier, and Bluebeam REVU preferred.
  • Significant experience in the preparation of project budgets, design and construction cost estimating and reconciliation, and development of project schedules.
  • Ability to process multiple assignments, set priorities, and lead third‑party contracted teams to meet objectives.

    Skills and Abilities
    • Master’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management.
    • Five years’ experience in project management for multiple project portfolios.
    • Experience with design and construction of multiple‑discipline research building programs.
    • LEED Accredited Professional;
      Professional Engineering, Architectural, or Project Management credentials.
    • Professional Registration or Certification (P.E.; R.A., P.M.P.) preferred.

    Education and Experience

    Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or Planning plus seven years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
