OverviewThe Community Health Educator (CHE) will play a critical role in supporting the mission of the Yale Cancer Center Community Outreach and Education Program (COE) by coordinating and implementing cancer-related health education and community engagement activities across our catchment area in the state of Connecticut. The CHE will focus on regions most impacted by cancer disparities, ensuring that culturally and linguistically appropriate cancer information is shared with the public.
This position will also be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with community partners, supporting communication efforts in collaboration with YCC/Smilow communication and patient education committee, and identifying opportunities to address gaps in cancer education and outreach.
Skills And Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, health education, community organizing, social science, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in public health or health‑related fields (excluding internships).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience conducting health education and outreach in diverse communities.
- Experience building community partnerships and fostering collaborative relationships.
- Experience developing health education materials and using social media for outreach.
Skills And Abilities
- Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or similar certification.
- Master’s degree in public health or a related field is a plus.
- Bilingual fluency in Spanish/English, including reading, writing, and speaking.
- Knowledge of cancer as a disease process and the cancer care continuum.
- Specialized knowledge in health disparities, health equity, and social determinants of health.
- Familiarity with culturally and linguistically appropriate health education approaches.
- Strong personal initiative and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse populations.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, virtual platforms (Zoom, Teams), and design tools (Canva, Adobe Acrobat Pro).
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines.
- Develops, provides, implements, and documents educational programs. Creates and distributes related pamphlets and brochures.
- Develops strong ties within target communities and across the University to assist in formulating and meeting health education needs.
- Utilizes a variety of models and strategies to assess and evaluate learning. Conducts program assessment and evaluation.
- Partners collaboratively to identify, implement, and integrate short‑ and long‑term change through project management and educational programming.
- Provides educational consultation and assistance in monitoring of content, competency and knowledge transfer.
- Complies with all regulatory and Joint Commission standards of education.
- May perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in a related field and three years of experience in direct education with adult learners in a healthcare educational environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
