The EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR serves as liaison to Schools of Nursing, Performance Improvement, and Nursing Cabinet to facilitate use of clinical and financial data and research findings for decision
-making and implementation of programs that ensure excellence in the delivery of patient care delivery. The EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR must also ensure that educational programs and patient care delivery processes meet regulatory, accepted practice standards and accreditation requirements. The EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR oversees the orientation of all nursing students and professional nurses and leads all Magnet initiatives for Yale New Haven Health. They also oversees the design and operation of all nursing, and unlicensed assistive personnel competency
-based orientation, as well as the design and implementation mandatory nursing and continuing education programs for YNHHS. The role spans across the Health System, as the leader of the nationally recognized system nurse residency program, the bridge to professional practice program, and the leader of a residency program for unlicensed assistive personnel. The EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR also collaborates with practice partners across the Health System to develop and implement standardized care and practice policies.
The EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR oversees and sponsors the enculturation of nursing professional governance for practice decision making across the health system. The EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR directs the nursing research program in collaboration with schools of nursing.

Responsibilities- Provide vision and strategy to Nursing Professional Practice in the design, development and implementation of clinically and fiscally responsive program philosophies, goals and objectives in collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officers and Chief New Executive.
- Ensure the establishment of clear performance standards within the nursing professional practice division in alignment with nursing best practices.
- Ensure on-going monitoring of programmatic performance. Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding the strategic change required to respond to trends regulatory standards as well as clinical practice.
- Collaborate with key members of the multidisciplinary team to lead care transformation and innovative across YNHHS.
- Enable a culture of systemness by developing structures and processes that support nursing professional excellence.
- Create strategies, structures and processes to foster an environment that supports nurses in their professional practice, overall health and well being.
- Develop strategies and infrastructure to create an organizational climate that promotes rigorous inquiry to create new knowledge (research) and translate evidence into practice [evidence-based practice (EBP)] to enhance patient care and improve the professional nurse practice environment.
- Establish and strengthen academic partnerships to prepare nurses to fulfill existing and emerging roles. Partners with colleges, universities, and key community nursing organizations to support key nursing initiatives related to academic preparation of nurses.
- Increase nurse engagement in professional organizations at the local, national, and international level to advance the profession of nursing and enhance YNHHS nursing’s voice in transforming health care.
