Job Description

The MSL/Senior MSL is a field‑based scientific expert that strategically supports the research and business objectives of a designated therapeutic area across the product life cycle for a specific geography/territory.

The MSL/Senior MSL is the primary communicator of Abb Vie science within a specific geography with healthcare professionals. The MSL/Senior MSL develops and maintains professional relationships with internal and external customers to provide comprehensive medical and scientific support to Abb Vie initiatives in assigned therapeutic areas. The MSL/Senior MSL is viewed as a peer scientific expert in a designated therapeutic area/product.

Combined with strong strategic vision, market therapeutic area awareness, and clinical expertise, the MSL/Senior MSL serves as a conduit of information, education, and research activities for physicians and ancillary healthcare professionals regarding current and future therapies in development or commercialized by Abb Vie. The MSL/Senior MSL works closely with other Abb Vie personnel to ensure information, education, and research needs of healthcare professionals are met and to ensure scientific and technical training needs of commercial organizations are identified and met.

Responsibilities
  • Identify, develop, and maintain professional relationships with thought leaders, academic centers, and researchers in assigned areas of therapeutic interest to ensure access to current medical and scientific information on the designated therapeutic/product area.
  • Present scientific information and education relative to disease state, therapeutic landscape, and Abb Vie products across the product lifecycle to healthcare professionals including physicians, academic institutions, researchers, and other health care professionals.
  • Support research initiatives as requested by Abb Vie R&D, Clinical Operations, and Medical Affairs Departments and physician‑initiated projects including site evaluation and identification, recruitment, investigator meetings, external expert identification, and external collaboration management.
  • Prepare market entry in new therapeutic areas of interest, creating awareness and relationships for Abb Vie in the medical community.
  • Maintain and collaborate in relationships with internal cross‑functional partnerships; work with in‑field commercial teams, as appropriate, to develop and execute account plans designed to support shared business objectives and serve as a scientific resource to commercial partners.
  • Serve as a medical/scientific resource to healthcare providers through answering unsolicited medical questions and addressing other clinically related medical information issues.
  • Support and conduct ongoing training for medical affairs, field sales, and other internal personnel as directed.
  • Practice core capabilities in strategic segmentation and optimal resource utilization.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable corporate and divisional policies and procedures, including accurate and timely documentation of HCP interactions, and manage annual expenses within assigned budget parameters.
  • The candidate must live in the territory or be willing to self‑relocate within the territory (Connecticut, Massachusetts).
  • Job grade, level, and title will be determined by the selected candidate’s credentials, education, and experience.
Qualifications
  • Advanced degree required (e.g., Pharm

    D, MD/DO, PhD, APP such as Physician Associate or Nurse Practitioner) in a relevant scientific discipline. Doctorate strongly preferred in a health science or clinical discipline.
