Overview

The Systems Engineer 2 will participate in the implementation, automation, and support of physical and virtual infrastructure systems and solutions for Yale University Library. The Systems Engineer 2 will have responsibility for critical services and storage in a 24/7/365 on‑call production environment. The successful candidate for the Systems Engineer 2 will have demonstrated experience with the following technologies:

  • UNIX/Linux operating systems and utilities, tools and applications used to deploy, configure, document, secure, and maintain systems and applications.
  • At least two of the following: automated build and deployment, automated configuration management, enterprise monitoring systems, containers, and/or Java application servers.
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) in a production environment.
  • Scripting languages such as Python, Perl, Bash.

Skills And Abilities
  • General understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, and data structures.
  • General understanding of software engineering best practices.
  • Developed analytical, critical thinking, research, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Developed interpersonal, written, communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with systems analysis methods and techniques.
Preferred

Skills And Abilities
  • Experience with ITIL or similar IT process management frameworks.
  • Experience and understanding of development tools (e.g. git, Jenkins, etc.).
  • Experience working with enterprise monitoring solutions (e.g. AWS Cloud Watch, Dynatrace, New Relic, etc.).
  • Experience with application and infrastructure automation (e.g. Terraform, Ansible, etc.).
Principal Responsibilities
  • Assist with the build, configuration, and documentation of IT infrastructure.
  • Maintain and support IT infrastructure, ensuring adherence to standards and service level objectives.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot IT infrastructure; analyze and report on performance metrics.
  • Implement and support robust and secure IT solutions.
  • Serve as a technical liaison; support and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to development and implementation of best practices.

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree and two years of experience or equivalent education and experience.
