Overview

The Academic Technology Specialist provides audio-visual support services to students, faculty, and staff in support of University classes and events in academic spaces.

Duties include:

classroom technology support in an assigned zone; AV equipment maintenance, including tier-1 troubleshooting, and documentation; AV equipment set-up/breakdown and operation in support of events in academic and large venue spaces.

Essential Duties

1. Consults with faculty to assess their classroom and instructional technology needs.

2. Chooses or develops AV solutions that supports pedagogical goals, and interoperability within zone(s).

3. Serves as the primary source of information regarding audio-visual technology and provides instruction and training concerning the use of existing equipment.

4. Coordinates collaborative course support efforts across Academic Media & Technology including the digital recording of course lectures.

5. Communicates technology, infrastructure, environmental, operational and related support issues within the department or with the appropriate service provider.

6. Coordinates and executes daily AV support services within assigned zone(s); serves as the initial point of contact for reporting problems and Tier 1 response to addressing issues in zone(s).

7. Maintains proficiency in the science of audio-visual technology and applies this knowledge to on-campus audio-visual systems usage and support services.

8. Partners with managers to organize and execute audio-visual support for University events, including the coordination of support with IT partners and Yale service providers.

9. Develops and edits departmental and knowledge base documentation regarding system specifications and usage. Documents service requests and problem reports for departmental databases.

10. Maintains equipment inventory for assigned classroom zone(s), including records of maintenance and repair.

Required

Skills and Abilities

1. Proven ability working in a fast-paced customer-focused AV environment.

2. Excellent customer service skills and ability to be flexible and remain open to learning new technology.

3.Proven ability to multitask and handle multiple AV needs concurrently throughout the campus.

4. Proven ability to work with video conferencing, webcasting and course capture technologies such as Zoom and Panopto.

Preferred

Skills and Abilities

1.Projection experience; understanding of operation of 16mm, 35mm, and DCP projectors.

2.Experience providing support for the following technologies: digital projectors, screens, monitors, computers, audio recorders, mixers, amplifiers, DVD/VHS/Blu-Ray players, document cameras, film projectors, slide projectors, microphones, control systems (e.g. Qsys, Extron), and video switchers. CTS and/or Qsys certifications.

The schedule for this position is 2:00-10:30pm;
Sunday-Thursday.

Principal Responsibilities

1. Serves as a principal source of information to faculty, students and support staff on standardized and specialized media production techniques and equipment operation.
2. Explains and describes the use and operation of video equipment and editing techniques through classroom lectures and in response to inquiries.
3. Plans and schedules video productions.
4. Operates specialized and standardized video camera, editing, and duplicating systems.
5. Conducts research related to video productions.
6. Maintains and repairs specialized and standardized video equipment.
7. Oversees and instructs support staff in the use and operation of media equipment.
8. Performs additional functions incidental to media technician activities. Required

Education and Experience Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
