Overview

The Assistant Director of Academic Technology & Media Services works closely with the Associate Director of Instructional Technologies to manage and oversee the daily audio‑visual (AV) operations at Yale Law School. This position delivers exceptional AV support services to the Law School community, leads a team of AV technicians in planning, coordinating, and supporting AV services for classes, conferences, and events, addresses AV‑related questions, resolves technical issues, and provides training and assistance with AV equipment.

The role also consults on event planning and equipment set‑up to ensure optimal AV solutions and supports the community with additional duties as needed.

  • Assist in leading and managing the AV team, including scheduling, training, and ensuring team members have the knowledge and resources to excel.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and a collaborative team‑player attitude.
  • Problem‑solving skills with experience troubleshooting Apple and Windows devices, their connectivity to the AV infrastructure, and proficiency with cloud storage platforms and Microsoft Office 365, especially PowerPoint.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, thrive in a fast‑paced and rapidly changing environment, and foster a collaborative and supportive environment.

Skills and Abilities
  • Experience with audio‑visual equipment, including Q‑Sys, PA systems, projectors, LCD displays, Shure wireless microphone systems, and SD‑VoE.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience supporting Zoom, proficiency with Panopto and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience with the Law School’s event management software, 25

Principal Responsibilities
  • Day‑to‑day operations, incident management, and technical support for desktop, print, wired/wireless/data/security network, specialty computing devices and related hardware and software.
  • Responding to and resolving complex technical problems, providing tier 2 and tier 3 support using a variety of tools and techniques.
  • Assessing and recommending computer hardware needs.
  • Assisting with the development of knowledge‑base articles and training documents.
  • Overseeing and leading a team of level 1 & 2 technicians.
Required

Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree and four years of experience or equivalent education and experience.

Skills and Abilities
  • Developed analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Developed interpersonal, written, communications and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of information technology applications, processes, software and equipment.
  • Demonstrated team performance skills, customer service mindset, and the ability to act as a trusted advisor.
