Qualifications
- Connecticut State Teaching Certification in the Bilingual Education
- Bilingual Teaching Experience (K-6)
- Knowledge of the theories and effective practices of the teaching of bilingual education
- Knowledge of literacy development and language acquisition as it affects students enrolled in bilingual education or stand‑alone ESL programs
- Ability to deliver content area instruction using comprehensible instruction (sheltered language) techniques
- Knowledgeable about computers and their application to second language instruction
- Knowledgeable about cooperative learning and its application to second language instruction
- Knowledgeable about multicultural education and student diversity issues
To provide instruction in both languages:
English and Spanish.
Supervisor of Bilingual and ESL Programs and Principal
ResponsibilitiesBy contractual agreement between the New Haven Board of Education and the New Haven Teacher's Bargaining Unit.
- Provide appropriate instruction to bilingual (Spanish) as per the job description for all New Haven Public School teachers.
- Certified teachers: $35.00/hour
- Non‑certified instructors: $17.50/hour
