OverviewReporting to the Director of International Development, the Program Manager will provide strategic leadership and high-level administrative support to the Director and Gift Officers by overseeing the International Development support team and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality written materials, including briefing materials, proposals, correspondence, stewardship reports, gift documentation, and other donor communications. They will be responsible for both producing and editing these materials, as appropriate, and manage the workflow and quality control processes associated with their development.
The Program Manager will hire, supervise, train, coach, and evaluate staff; establish strategic direction, quality standards, and best practices for administrative support, writing, and departmental projects; and direct daily work activities to ensure the successful planning and execution of fundraising initiatives, donor events, campus visits, and international engagement activities. This role will also oversee prospect research, reporting and data analysis, prospect portfolio support, donor stewardship, recordkeeping, and the accuracy of gift acknowledgments, payment information, and donor records.
The Program Manager will build and maintain collaborative relationships across the Office of Development and the University to advance fundraising priorities and strengthen international development efforts. Skills And Abilities
- Exceptional communication skills with special emphasis on writing and editing.
- Ability to supervise staff with varying experience and expertise.

- Ability to set and articulate goals for the team, track progress, and ensure completion of work within target deadlines.
- Professionalism, maturity and an ability to work with confidential information.
- Knowledge of one or more foreign languages.
- Ability to interact in a professional manner with top level donors and Yale administrators.
- Experience in a university setting or with development work.
- Advanced degree; familiarity with Yale.
- International experience.
- Plans, directs and oversees programmatic activities in support of the overall mission. Initiates, develops and oversees projects that advance the unit’s goals.
2. Tracks program activities and regularly informs leadership of progress. Recommends structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of mission, goals, and objectives. Develops, as needed, metrics to identify and measure success.
3. Develops, implements, and maintains operational policies and procedures. Innovates and develops best practices in line with changing unit and departmental needs. Serves as a resource to the unit director and others, as needed, in the work of the team.
4. Hires and supervises staff, overseeing workflow and ensuring equal distribution and timely completion of work. Meets regularly with direct reports and provides feedback and conducts reviews. Evaluates team productivity and makes necessary adjustments.
5. Sets and maintains quality standards for all materials provided by and for the unit. Devises and implements plans for communications with stakeholders and others. 6. May participate in training of new staff to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the resources and procedures within the unit. 7. May hire and directly supervises unit’s student employees, including training and coordination of project assignments.
