A person in this position is responsible for operating production equipment to manufacture chemical batches in compliance with company standard operating procedures (SOPs) and all local, state and federal regulations regarding safety, health, and the environment.
What will you be doing?- Work from written procedures to process, purify, and chemically fabricate products and their compounds through a sequence of batch operations.
- Operate equipment, including reactors, tanks, pumps, mixers, pH meters, level meters, flow meters, valves, and hoses used in the manufacture of said products.
- Handle liquid and solid chemicals using pumps, scales and flow meters.
- Weigh, measure and check raw materials and finished product to ensure that batches manufactured contain proper ingredients and quantities and that accurate inventory is maintained.
- Perform product weighing, packaging, labeling, and boxing operations in accordance with SOP's.
- Locate materials in the warehouse and transport to manufacturing areas using a forklift as needed.
- Collect process samples and interface with laboratory personnel for analysis.
- Maintain required log sheets including but not limited to batch tickets, packaging sheets, scrubber operation log, pH meter calibration, and equipment inspections.
- Attend required HSE training including Hazardous Waste Management, emergency response, and Hazard Communication, and demonstrate an acceptable level of understanding of topics.
- Package, mark, and label Hazardous Waste containers.
- Operate equipment and follow procedures in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSA'S 18001 standards.
- Communicate with shift leader regarding safety, production, quality, or any other operational issues. Actively participate in shift meetings to assist in work planning and continuous improvement.
- Adhere to all corporate, plant and safety policies/procedures.
- Wear personal protective equipment as applicable.
- Complete all assigned training including corporate, HSE and quality specific requirements.
- Train other chemical operators in operations, processes and procedures as needed to ensure efficiencies, safety and compliance.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- 3+ years of applicable experience making batches, working and blending chemicals. Chemical manufacturing is highly preferred.
- Experience with sulfide or cyanide gold reaction processes or other precious metals products.
- Experience working in a clean‑room environment.
- Forklift certification and Hazardous Waste Operations certification preferable.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; convey technical information effectively and concisely to engineering, sales, technicians, etc.
