OverviewWe are seeking a Clinical Research Nurse II to support a diverse portfolio of clinical research studies conducted across multiple research units throughout New Haven. This position plays a critical role in providing direct patient care to research participants while ensuring study protocol compliance, participant safety, and high-quality data collection.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced nurse who is interested in clinical research and enjoys working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Prior clinical research experience is not required.
The research portfolio spans a wide range of disease areas and patient populations, including pediatric participants. Candidates must be adaptable, flexible, and comfortable working in a dynamic research setting where study needs and patient volumes may vary.
ResponsibilitiesClinical Research & Patient Care
- Provide nursing care to research participants during study visits
- Perform protocol-directed assessments and clinical procedures
- Administer study medications and monitor participant safety
- Conduct venipuncture, phlebotomy, IV placement, ECGs, and vital sign collection
- Collect, document, and maintain accurate clinical and laboratory data
- Support participant enrollment, scheduling, and follow-up activities
- Assist with specimen preparation, handling, and shipment
- Follow study-specific protocols and research procedures
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, participant safety standards, and study guidelines
- Support data quality and documentation efforts
Collaborate with investigators, coordinators, and research staff to execute study activities - Work closely with multidisciplinary research teams across multiple research sites
- Contribute to a highly collaborative and patient-focused environment
- Support occasional evening, overnight, or weekend study visits as needed
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Active Connecticut RN License or eligibility for Connecticut licensure
- Minimum 5 years of nursing experience
- Experience with:
- Physical assessments
- Medication administration
- IV insertion and maintenance
- ECGs and vital signs
- Current BLS certification
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Pediatric nursing experience
- Interest in clinical research or investigational medicine
- Prior clinical research experience
- Experience with Epic or other electronic medical record systems
- SoCRA certification or willingness to obtain certification
- Schedule provided approximately 4 weeks in advance
- Primary need for evening and overnight coverage:
- 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
- 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Flexibility is essential
- Coverage may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and occasional overnight study visits
