American Traveler is hiring a Level I Trauma-experienced RN for a Night Shift Emergency Department position requiring a CT or Compact RN license and TNCC/ACLS/BLS certifications.

• Work in the Emergency Department of a Level I Trauma Center, short-term acute care hospital
• General Emergency Department serving combined adult and pediatric patients
• Average patient ratios of 1:6 for both days and nights
• Night shift schedule of 4x12 hour shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• Required to work every other weekend
• Assigned to one primary campus with potential for cross-training and floating to other campuses and ED observation units
• No on-call requirements
• Travelers are not assigned to trauma/rescue rooms, triage, or locked behavioral health units
• Uses Epic charting system

• Active RN license (CT or Compact) required, pending license accepted
• Current certifications: TNCC, ACLS, and BLS required; CPI, ENPC, NIHSS, and PALS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of ED experience required, though 1.5 years may be accepted from a Level I facility or with travel experience
• Level I Trauma Center experience required;
  Level II Trauma experience preferred
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Experience with psychiatric emergencies including acute psychosis, drug overdose, managing violent behavior, and suicidal patients
• IV therapy and phlebotomy skills including arterial line management, blood product administration, and central line care
• Respiratory management skills including BiPAP/CPAP, ventilator care, chest tube management, and ABG interpretation
• Experience administering emergency medications including continuous IV paralytics, sedation, and vasopressors
• Neurological care experience including CVA, ICP monitoring, and traumatic brain/spinal cord injury management
• Cardiac monitoring skills including dysrhythmia interpretation/management and 12-lead EKG acquisition
• Experience managing shock/trauma cases including gunshot wounds and traumatic amputations
• Orthopedic trauma experience including splint application
• Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
• One professional reference required for consideration

• Provide emergency nursing care across a wide range of trauma, psychiatric, cardiac, neurological, and respiratory cases
• Float within scope to meet facility staffing needs across campuses and ED observation units
• Open to accommodating block scheduling requests
• Flu vaccine required with no declinations accepted; COVID vaccine and booster require religious or medical exemption if not vaccinated
• RTO requests up to 7 days can be auto-approved; requests beyond 7 days require additional approval
• Local candidates are not accepted unless residing beyond a 75-mile radius from the facility
• Former staff must have been separated from the health system for at least 2 years to be eligible to return as a traveler
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
• Weekend call-out policy requires make-up shifts to be rescheduled within the same 6-week scheduling period
• Facility is a large academic medical center and Level I Trauma Center with over 1,000 staffed beds
• Travelers are expected to participate in natural disaster or emergency response activities as needed
