• Clinical Care – The Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs throughout the disease process as part of an interdisciplinary team. The NP/PA works in collaboration with supervising physicians in accordance with state law, hospital policies, protocols, and clinical pathways and may provide autonomous, team‑based care. Responsibilities include obtaining medical histories, performing physical examinations, reviewing and ordering diagnostic and therapeutic tests, formulating and managing patient treatment plans, performing procedures, prescribing medications, serving as first or second assistant on operative cases (within scope and educational prerequisites), and responding to emergency situations in alignment with YNHHS parameters.
• Patient Education & Psychosocial Support – The NP/PA educates patients and families on care plans, side effects, and discharge instructions, and provides psychosocial support in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
• Information Management – The NP/PA ensures appropriate documentation and protects information from unauthorized access or disclosure.
• Quality Management – The NP/PA demonstrates high standards of professionalism, ethics, and patient care, and ensures compliance with healthcare regulatory requirements.
• Professional Development – The NP/PA engages in projects that advance professional competency, serves as a clinical resource for new staff, reports safety events, mentors emerging providers, and may participate in research, quality assurance, and protocol development.

• Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program.

• Clinical working experience as an NP/PA in the specialty/service line is preferred but not required.
• APRNs, PAs, CRNAs, and CNMs must be appointed to the Affiliated Medical Staff of a YNHHS hospital and complete the medical staff credentialing process, providing evidence of current competence and reference letters as required.

• Active PA Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA);
  Connecticut State Physician Assistant License; ACLS/BLS Certified; DEA License when indicated for the position profile.
• Pediatric position profile PALS; neonatal care NRP Certification when indicated.
• Additional licensure, certifications, or continuing education credits may be required during employment based on position and area of specialty, including Connecticut State Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner License and board specialty certifications as appropriate.
