Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN-Chemo for an outpatient oncology clinic position requiring Chemo certification and prior chemo/infusion experience at a Level I Trauma Center academic medical center.

Details
  • Outpatient multispecialty clinic setting within a Level I Trauma Center academic medical center
  • Chemo unit caring for Breast Oncology, Breast Surgery, and Plastic Surgery patients
  • Day shift schedule, 4x9 hour shifts from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Duties include telephone triage, in-basket management, and assisting providers during clinic visits
  • Handles new and return patient visits, pre-op/post-op teaching, and chemo teaching
  • Uses Epic charting system
Requirements
  • Active RN license (CT state or Compact) required
  • BLS certification required
  • Chemo certification (ONS/ONCC) required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required within specialty, with consideration for 1.5 years for candidates with Level I Trauma or travel experience
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Outpatient clinic experience and phone triage experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Trauma Center experience at a large facility required
  • Skilled in IV therapy and infusions, including starting and maintaining IVs
  • Experience accessing and managing ports preferred
  • Skilled in symptom management, including nausea/vomiting and altered mental status
  • Experience recognizing and managing oncologic emergencies, including anaphylaxis
  • Experience with chemotherapy administration, including oral administration and body fluid handling post-chemotherapy
  • Ability to recognize and communicate abnormal lab values
  • Experience caring for breast cancer patients preferred
  • Experience in infusion center, inpatient oncology, and outpatient oncology settings preferred
  • Skilled in pain management, including medication tolerance/dependence assessment preferred
  • Experience providing psychosocial care, including patient/family education and support preferred
  • Knowledge of biotherapy and management of associated side effects preferred
  • One professional reference required for consideration
Additional Information
  • Provide direct patient care including chemotherapy administration, port access/management, and symptom management for oncology patients
  • Assist providers during outpatient clinic visits and manage telephone triage and patient in-basket communications
  • Deliver patient and family education and psychosocial support throughout treatment
  • Facility is a large academic medical center and Level I Trauma Center
  • Royal blue scrub color required
  • Flu vaccine required with no declinations accepted
  • COVID vaccine and booster required, with exemptions granted only for religious or medical reasons
  • Local candidates are not accepted; candidates residing within 75 miles of the facility are not eligible
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be auto-approved
  • Former staff members must have been separated from the facility for at least 2 years to be considered as a traveler
  • First-time travelers are not considered for this position due to travel experience requirement
