American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for an Emergency Dept position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring CT or compact RN license and prior Level I trauma experience.
Details- Level I Trauma Center Emergency Department at a large academic medical center
- Assigned to one campus with possibility of rotating to other campuses and ED observation units
- Combined adult/pediatric emergency department
- Average patient ratios of 1:6 for both day and night shifts
- Night shift schedule, 4x12 hours, 19:00-07:00
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirements
- Floating within scope required to meet facility needs
- Open to accommodating block schedules
- Epic EMR used for charting
- Travelers are not assigned to trauma/rescue rooms, triage, or locked behavioral health units
- Active CT or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted)
- BLS, ACLS, and TNCC certifications required
- NIHSS, ENPC, CPI, and PALS certifications preferred
- Minimum 2 years of ED experience required, 1.5 years accepted from a Level I trauma or similar hospital with travel experience
- Level I Trauma experience required;
Level II Trauma experience preferred - Experience with patient ratios of 1:5-6
- Epic charting experience preferred
- Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
- Experience from a facility with 500+ beds, inner city/urban location, and ED larger than 60 beds preferred if no direct Epic experience
- Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, arterial line management, blood product administration, and central line care
- Respiratory skills including BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube management, ABG interpretation, and intubation preferred
- Experience with emergency medications, IV vasopressors, and continuous IV sedation/paralytics
- Neurological care experience including CVA, ICP monitoring, and traumatic brain/spinal cord injury management
- Experience managing psychiatric patients including acute psychosis, suicidal patients, and violent behavior
- Cardiac monitoring skills including dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and 12-lead EKG acquisition
- Shock/trauma experience including gunshot wounds and traumatic amputations
- Orthopedic trauma and splinting skills preferred
- One professional reference required for consideration
- Provide emergency department nursing care within a Level I Trauma Center setting
- STEMI and Stroke Certified facility
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
- Local candidates are not accepted; candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the hospital
- Returning staff must have a 2-year gap since previous employment to be considered as a traveler
- RTO requests up to 7 days can be auto-approved; requests exceeding 7 days require additional approval
- Flu vaccine required with no declinations accepted
- COVID vaccine and booster required, with exemptions available only for religious or medical reasons
- Travelers are obligated to participate in natural disaster or emergency response activities as needed
- Weekend call-out policy requires makeup shifts to be rescheduled within the following 6-week period
