Research Scientist, Research Assistant/Associate
Overview
The Research Assistant 1 will support basic and translational research projects in the Alagpulinsa laboratory focused on the genetic, hematopoietic, and immune mechanisms underlying complex diseases, including type 1 diabetes and related traits. The individual will contribute to wet‑lab experimentation, sample processing, molecular and cellular assays, data organization, and general laboratory operations in a collaborative interdisciplinary research environment. This position is designed for a highly motivated candidate seeking intensive research experience and training in experimental and computational approaches.
Responsibilities- Support research projects investigating genetic, hematopoietic, and immune mechanisms underlying complex diseases, including type 1 diabetes and related traits.
- Perform wet‑lab experimentation including mammalian cell culture, molecular biology assays (PCR/qPCR, DNA/RNA methods), and functional cellular assays.
- Assist with sample processing, reagent preparation, experimental setup, and maintenance of accurate laboratory records. Support laboratory operations, including inventory management, ordering supplies, and compliance with safety and research protocols.
- Participate in data organization, preliminary analysis, figure preparation, and laboratory meetings and journal discussions.
- May assist with animal studies, primary cell processing, and implementation of gene perturbation approaches as applicable.
- Research and collect data through complex laboratory/scientific experiments, techniques, and procedures; library research; structured interviews; or other means for designated research assignments.
- Record and compile information related to research data, code data accordingly, use a computer terminal to input and retrieve data, generate reports, and process and summarize data using scientific or statistical techniques.
- Assist in data interpretation and analyses, and report on the status of research activities.
- Set up, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment and apparatus.
- Formulate and prepare scientific solutions and media, recruit study participants, and order and maintain inventory of supplies.
- May assist in designing, developing, and modifying research experiments, procedures, or survey instruments, and may oversee and instruct research staff.
- Perform additional functions incidental to research activities.
- Ability to perform molecular biology and cell‑based laboratory techniques, maintain accurate research records, and follow established protocols.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple responsibilities independently and collaboratively.
- Familiarity with scientific data analysis tools and willingness to learn new experimental and computational approaches.
