Overview
The Research Assistant 1, HSS supports the day-to-day execution of clinical research activities within the Yale Scleroderma Program. This role assists with the coordination of clinical trials and observational studies by supporting participant recruitment, data collection, and protocol-driven study activities in both clinic and remote settings.
The Research Assistant contributes to maintaining accurate and timely data entry in systems such as REDCap, Epic, and sponsor electronic data capture (EDC) platforms, ensuring completeness and adherence to study protocols. The role includes conducting chart reviews, assisting with structured data collection, and supporting regulatory documentation as needed.
This position also supports specimen-related workflows, including collection, processing coordination, labeling, and maintaining accurate tracking and storage documentation in alignment with established procedures. The Research Assistant works closely with study teams to ensure research activities are completed according to protocol timelines and institutional requirements.
Additional responsibilities include supporting literature review efforts, assisting with preparation of research materials for presentations or manuscripts, and providing general operational support to ongoing clinical and translational research projects. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to follow established procedures, and effective coordination with team members across multiple studies.

Skills and Abilities
1. Clinical or Research Environment
Experience:
Ability to support clinical research activities, including participant interaction, data collection, and adherence to established study protocols and regulatory guidelines.
2. Data Management:
Proficiency in accurate data entry and basic data management using systems such as REDCap, Epic, or other EDC platforms, with attention to data quality and completeness.
3. Interpersonal
Skills:
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with research participants, clinical teams, and study staff.
4. Organizational
Skills:
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks across studies, including tracking study activities, timelines, and documentation requirements.
5. Technological Proficiency:
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and general research tools; ability to learn and navigate clinical research systems and databases.

Skills and Abilities
1.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in a related field such as psychology, public health, neuroscience, or a health science discipline.
2. Research
Experience:
Previous experience in research settings, particularly involving clinical trials, psychiatric evaluations, or substance use disorders.
3. Familiarity with data collection software and statistical analysis tools.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for designated research assignments.
2. Records and compiles information related to research data. Codes data accordingly to research specifications. Uses a computer terminal to input and retrieve data and to generate reports.
3. Processes and summarizes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Assists in data interpretation and analyses. Reports on status of research activities.
4. Recruits study participants and ensures that subject recruitment and follow-up are completed per protocol procedures.
5. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. May assist in designing, developing, and modifying research experiments, procedures, or survey instruments. May assist research and support staff.
6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities. Required
Education and Experience Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
