Research Scientist
Position Overview
The Yale CryoEM Resource (YCR) is a university‑wide cryo‑electron microscopy facility with three sites across Yale’s campuses:
Science Hill, Yale School of Medicine, and West Campus. The specialist will report to the YCR Managing Director and will work with users across Yale and external academic and industry partners. The position is primarily based at the Science Hill site, with additional activities at the Yale School of Medicine and West Campus as needed.
Provide advanced training and guidance to users of the research core.
Collaborate with researchers on experimental design, execution, data analysis, and troubleshooting within the research core.
Manage and oversee research projects within the research core.
Lead the implementation and optimization of advanced techniques and methodologies and develop standard operating procedures for research core services.
Analyze and interpret complex scientific data, generating meaningful insights and recommendations.
Assist in the selection, acquisition, and maintenance of research core equipment.
Stay updated with emerging research trends and technologies. Participate in professional development activities and scientific conferences.
Contribute scientific data for manuscript preparation and grant proposals.
Contribute to the training and mentoring of junior staff members.
Manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and evaluate new technologies for optimal procurement processes.
Contribute to education and outreach activities within the core, including tours, events, etc.
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated expertise in cryo
EM, including experimental design, sample preparation, screening, data collection, data analysis, and scientific troubleshooting. - Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with scientists from a wide range of backgrounds.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Project management: strong organizational and project management skills to support facility operations.
- Technical knowledge: in-depth understanding of relevant research techniques and methodologies.
Ph.D. or equivalent in biology, chemistry, physics, biophysics, structural biology or a closely related field.
RequiredEducation and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of skills, education, and experience.
