Scientific Advisor, Women’s Health Research (WHRY)
The Scientific Advisor to the Women’s Health Research at Yale Center reports to the Center Director and serves as the principal scientific advisor. The role coordinates scientific activities across the center, leads grant development and submission, oversees scientific writing, and provides support to Dr. Safdar’s lab with grant writing, manuscript preparation, and publication.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as primary scientific architect for major submissions, leading grant writing efforts, editing, coordinating, and acting as liaison to ensure successful submission.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for federal, foundation, and private funding in consultation with the Director to support the center’s growth.
- Support investigators on funding strategy, competitiveness, and portfolio development.
- Coordinate scientific initiatives within WHRY and between Yale School of Medicine departments.
- Provide scientific guidance to the WHRY pilot program, advising on thematic priorities, reviewer selection, and alignment with long‑term funding strategy.
- Review progress of funded projects and recommend strategic course adjustments.
- Contribute to publications, scientific reports, and progress updates.
- Support dissemination efforts, create content for scientific messaging, national positioning, symposia, and research programming.
- Serve as scientific liaison for Safdar lab studies: assist with grant submissions, regulatory documents, budgeting, human subject plans, literature searches, SOPs, etc.
- Collaborate with IBO, YCCI, and IRB staff for grant submissions, regulatory document management, financial reporting, effort reports.
- Provide regulatory oversight for ongoing and new studies.
- Lead and manage the preparation, writing, review, and publication of scientific manuscripts.
- Coordinate with research investigators, fellows, and trainees to develop manuscript drafts and integrate feedback.
- Advise Director and research staff on NIH policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
- Support post‑award activities including presentations, progress reports, renewals, and sponsor communications.
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated experience with NIH grant writing, submission, and grant administration.
- Proven ability to develop and strategically position grants in alignment with institutional priorities.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with ability to make sound decisions and manage multiple priorities.
Education and Experience
Master’s degree in a scientific or life sciences discipline and a minimum of four years of experience managing a scientific or research program, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
PreferredEducation and Experience
- Ph.D. in a scientific discipline integrating basic and clinical science.
- Experience in interdisciplinary research environments and variable funding sources.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills in complex, multi‑stakeholder academic settings.
- Demonstrated proficiency in scientific and scholarly writing.
