Overview

This position primarily carries out activities directed towards the production of PET radiotracers for use in human research studies. This involves the daily production of radiotracers either by setting up and operating GE Tracerlab synthesis modules or by manual synthesis in lead‑lined hoods (hot cells) using manipulators.

Duties Include

Process validation of new radiotracers with the guidance of either the lead production chemist or the director of radiochemistry.
Day‑to‑day maintenance of the synthesis modules and assisting the GE service engineer with any major service.
Ordering and monitoring the inventory of production materials.
Daily recording of laboratory operational parameters.
Participation in the investigation and prevention of anomalous events.
Cross‑training in QC analysis and cyclotron operation may be required.
Other duties as assigned.
Work in the PET laboratory involves monitored, controlled, and limited exposure to radiation.

Proven experience handling radioactive materials including automated and/or manual radiochemistry synthesis operation.

Preferred

Education and Experience

Background in chemistry or related science is preferred.

Principal Responsibilities

Recommend the design and implementation of procedures and protocols under the direction of a higher‑level authority.

Investigate, analyze, and reach preliminary scientific conclusions related to research planning.

Ensure data results are compiled, analyzed, and presented properly.

Analyze, develop and interpret scientific results; maintain clear documentation of results; prepare scientific reports and papers for research proposals and published reports.

Perform independent research and laboratory techniques and participate in experimental research planning.

Interact with internal contacts including the PI, research assistants, graduate students, Radiation Safety and Biological Safety officers, and Animal Care personnel to discuss and evaluate research results and to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the laboratory.

Interact with external contacts such as researchers at other institutions and staff at biotechnology and reagents companies to consult on research methods and keep abreast of product information and developments.

May perform other duties as assigned.
