Dr. Peter Gruber´s Laboratory in the Yale University School of Medicine is seeking an enthusiastic postgraduate for a position immediately available to participate in research projects focused on cardiac developmental biology, genetics, gene editing, and tissue engineering. The lab has a many decade history of high quality publications that have helped define the genetic and mechanistic landscape of congenital heart disease.
Overview of the Position:
EducationOur lab employs animal models (fish, mouse, large animals), tissue culture, human ES and iPSC targeting, with a variety of biochemical, molecular biological, and imaging assays, to understand the mechanisms that guide tissue movements in the developing heart. These discoveries have implications for human disease that we interrogate using genomic approaches. Therapeutics are then evaluated using a variety of large animal models including ex vivo perfusion systems.
The candidate will get education in each of these areas.
The candidate will be have basic training in techniques of molecular biology, cell culture, histology, animal models, and bioinformatics, though expertise is not required. It is expected the candidate will participate and hold authorship in publications
MentoringThe Gruber Lab offers mentorship and guidance to enrich the trainees knowledge base and optimize their work experience. The postgrad will meet daily with other lab members and weekly with Dr. Gruber. There are ample opportunities to attend scientific lectures both on campus and remotely. We understand this is a transitional position for those interested in further scientific or professional studies.
As such, we will work to assure you have an optimal experience to prepare you for your next step.

Qualifications:
Postgraduates who recently received a bachelor and/or master’s degree in biological sciences or a related field are encouraged to apply. This position may be of particular interest to those interested in strengthening their research experience prior to graduate school or medical school. Highly organized, self-motivated, and hard-working candidates are welcome.
Those with advanced degrees (MD , PhD, or MD, PhD) are not eligible.
Prior lab experience preferred.
