Security Specialist ambassadors maintain a fixed point of service security access control post in an assigned building entrance lobby or parking area to ensure proper security, protection and access control. They perform a variety of duties to ensure high quality guest service to our patients, their families and visitors. They provide oversight of first points of all entry in the hospital and certain ambulatory sites at all main entrances.
They are trained to provide patient information, maintain visitor pass policies and procedures, and oversee patient restriction policies, triage difficult situations requiring escalation to a Senior Patrol Officer. They manage interactions with patients, families and visitors to ensure the most positive and highest level of patient experience.
Shift schedules:
Days, Evenings, or Nights with a rotating weekend and holiday commitment.
- Post Duties:
Maintain a fixed security access control post in an assigned building entrance lobby to ensure proper access control. Provide assistance to those with physical limitations, locate wheelchairs, assist with parking and handicap space issues, and provide strong customer service. - Field Duties:
Provide position related security responsibilities to ensure a safe and secure environment for the Hospital community. - Report suspicious persons or activity to the Central Communications Officer for response by Senior Patrol Officers.
- Emergency Response:
Assist with elimination, containment, and support during emergencies, escort emergency response medical teams, and respond to remote locations. - Customer/Employee Services:
Provide greeting and assistance to patients, visitors, students, or employees, ensuring a professional, courteous environment. - Environment of Care:
Monitor and report unsafe conditions to appropriate internal resources. - Support Duties:
Provide support in ancillary duties, monitoring IP Video Systems equipment, and handling routine phone calls. - Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
Operate assigned equipment safely, follow procedures.
Education
:
High School diploma or GED. Required to participate in initial entry‑level and ongoing in‑service educational training modules.
Experience
:
Prior security experience is preferred but not required. Two years of military service or current reserve status is also acceptable.
Licensure
:
Must meet Connecticut Department of Public Safety security officer licensing requirements (Armed/Unarmed), attend State‑approved Security Officer Training Class, file necessary documentation, and hold a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
Special Skills
:
Must meet hospital health and physical standards, complete in‑service training, exercise good judgment, public relations skills, confidentiality, and have the ability to read, write, and interpret rules and regulations.
