Summary

Transportation Security Officers provide security and protection of travelers across all transportation sectors in a courteous and professional manner. Their duties may include securing high‑profile events, important figures, or aspects that impact transportation systems.

The salary range for New Haven, CT (HVN - Tweed - New Haven Airport) is $54,333 to $66,989 per year (or $26.03 to $32.10 per hour) and includes a 37.95% locality pay.

• Operate various screening equipment and technology to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo, and on passengers, preventing those objects from being transported onto aircraft.
• Perform searches and screening, including physical interaction with passengers (pat‑downs, search of property, etc.), conducting bag searches and lifting/carrying bags, bins, and property weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Control terminal entry and exit points.
• Interact with the public, giving directions and responding to inquiries.
• Maintain focus and awareness while working in a stressful environment, including alarms, machinery, noise, crowd distractions, and disruptive passengers, to preserve the professional ability to identify and locate potentially life‑threatening or mass destruction devices.
• Engage in continuous development of critical thinking skills, necessary to mitigate actual and potential security threats, by identifying, evaluating, and applying appropriate situational options and approaches, including risk‑based security screening protocols.
• Retain and implement knowledge of all applicable Standard Operating Procedures, demonstrating responsible and dependable behavior, and remain open to change and adapt to new information or unexpected obstacles.

• Maintain physical agility to squat, bend, and lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Walk up to three miles during a shift and stand for prolonged periods (up to 4 hours).

• U.S. citizenship or U.S. national.
• Minimum age 18 at time of application.
• Selective Service registration (male applicants born after 12/31/59).
• Must pass a structured interview, drug screening, medical evaluation, and background investigation.
• Subject to post‑employment random drug and/or alcohol testing.
• Must be available for various shifts and overtime as needed.
• Proficient in English (reading, writing, speaking).
• Mandatory travel for training and occasional travel may be required.
• Exposure to potentially lethal devices and dangerous chemicals is inherent to the position.

• A Experience:
  At least one year of full‑time work in the security industry, aviation screening, or as an X‑ray technician.
• B Education:
  High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or TASC certificate.

Credit for experience is given based on a 40‑hour workweek. Part‑time experience is credited on a part‑time ratio.

• Full‑time – 40 hours per week, shift work on any day from Sunday through Saturday, including irregular hours, nights, holidays, overtime, extended shifts and split shifts.
• Part‑time – 16–32 hours per week, shift work on any day from Sunday through Saturday, including irregular hours, nights, holidays, overtime, extended shifts and split shifts.
