The Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking a full‑time HVAC Technician (PCN 153645) at the Connecticut Mental Health Center (CMHC) in New Haven.
Schedule- First shift: 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM
- Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week

- Perform highly skilled HVACR work in accordance with trade practices and codes on heating, ventilation, cooling, and refrigeration systems.
- Operate, maintain, install, and repair complex HVACR systems, including equipment using Freon, chilled water, and advanced air‑handling components.
- Monitor and troubleshoot computerized control systems, ensuring proper airflow, pressurization, and system performance.
- Independently plan and execute work, estimate materials, determine cooling requirements, and complete technical tasks with minimal supervision.
- Interpret technical data such as psychrometric charts and perform diagnostic tasks including minor fuel tests, gas leak checks, and water treatment adjustments.
- Use and interpret psychrometric charts to assess system performance.
- Activate and schedule maintenance tasks based on system load and performance data.
- Prepare estimates of time and materials and maintain accurate shop records.
- Four (4) years of experience in tasks in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) trade.
- Two (2) years of that experience focused on skilled HVACR work.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply standard HVACR trade practices, tools, and materials.
- Interpersonal and oral communication skills.
- Written communication skills.
- Ability to prepare estimates and keep shop records.
- Ability to utilize computer software.
- Compliance with the Connecticut Drug‑Free Workplace Policy; comprehensive medical examination, including drug screening, required after a conditional offer of employment.
- HVAC license (D2, S2)
- Incumbents must possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits, and/or certifications, including a State of Connecticut heating, piping, and/or cooling license.
- Incumbents may be required by the appointing authority to possess or acquire and retain other current licenses, permits, and/or certifications.
- Incumbents must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility, visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness required for the duties of the class.
- Physical examination may be required.
