This is achieved by coalition‑building and intentional collaboration between relevant agencies, targeting the highest‑risk individuals with hyper‑focused social service intervention, supporting the social networks of high‑risk individuals, and enhancing workforce training and placement opportunities for this group.
ProgramCoordinator Role
Under the direction of the Coordinator of the Office of Violence Prevention and other relevant staff in the Department of Community Resilience, the Program Coordinator is responsible for the day‑to‑day implementation and management of the PRESS Forward initiative. All work will be done in coordination with relevant stakeholders from partner agencies and programs in accordance with the proposal and scope of work approved by the Bureau of Justice Assistance.
This role reports to the Coordinator of the Office of Violence Prevention or designee, and supervises professional, operational, and administrative staff.
The PRESS Forward initiative is designed to reduce gun violence and victimization in the City of New Haven by coalition‑building, intentional collaboration between relevant agencies, targeting the highest‑risk individuals with hyper‑focused social service intervention, supporting the social networks of high‑risk individuals, and enhancing workforce training and placement opportunities for this group.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities- With assistance from the Director of Special Projects, oversees all program subcontracts.
- Oversees day‑to‑day data collection and management of all client charting, data and information systems relating to program services.
- Designs innovative and successful strategies to foster team building among PRESS Forward staff including contracted staff and volunteers.
- Leads the New Haven Violence Reduction Working Group, including curating agendas, distributing documents, taking notes, meeting individually with partners, and collecting feedback from Working Group members.
- Prepares and submits regular progress reports, grant applications, and funding proposals to secure additional resources and support for the initiative.
- Conducts quarterly community review meetings to share PRESS Forward data and integrates community feedback into programming.
- Collaborates with a research partner to manage and analyze program data and outcomes.
- Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of program activities through regular assessments, surveys, and feedback mechanisms, making data‑driven recommendations for program enhancements.
- Develops program adjustments and implementations to present to the Working Group for adoption.
- Liaises with other related community initiatives and serves as a central contact point for all PRESS Forward partners.
- Acts as a liaison between the program and relevant governmental agencies, advocating for policy changes and resource allocation to support the goals of PRESS Forward.
- Collaborates with local educational institutions and vocational training centres to create tailored educational and job placement opportunities for program participants, focusing on skill‑building and career advancement.
- Co‑ordinates with law enforcement agencies to ensure effective communication and collaboration between PRESS Forward and local law enforcement efforts, promoting a cohesive approach to violence prevention.
- Distributes gift card incentives to PRESS Forward partners and works with cash assistance partner to distribute job training scholarships and essential needs funds.
- Performs other related work as required.
- Graduation from an accredited 4‑year college or university with major coursework in social services, criminology, public health, social work, or other relevant areas.
- 2‑3 years of experience in Public Health or Social Service field, with at least 1 year experience in program management.
