Residential Counselor -PT 16 Hours Friday and Saturday 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM -DBT

Scope of Service

The DBT Residential Counselor position supports our Young Adults receiving services through Continuum’s Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program. The role assists individuals with daily personal routines including providing prompts for daily living skills, skill-building activities, and active participation in groups, community engagement, and recreational activities. The counselor provides companionship to residents, establishes trusting professional relationships, completes mandatory training under the DBT Contracted Trainer/Supervisor, co‑facilitates DBT‑based groups, and performs other duties as assigned.

Client Care:

• Establishes rapport and positive working relationships with clients while maintaining professional ethics and boundaries.
• Provides coaching to practice coping strategies and adopt more adaptive behaviors.
• Assists in solving daily problems related to community living, medical conditions, and interpersonal relationships.
• Supports self‑care skills: mandatory self‑care self‑management, medication compliance, self‑management of mental‑illness symptoms, use of transportation, planning nutritious meals, grooming, financial management, shopping, leisure time use, interpersonal communication, and problem‑solving.
• Facilitates connections to natural community supports and mentors.
• Encourages self‑advocacy skill development and access to self‑help and advocacy resources.
• Encourages practice of recovery skills to prevent relapse and manage symptom cycles.
• Develops positive social relationships for independent participation in social, interpersonal, or community activities.
• Provides transportation to appointments as needed.
• Conducts regular apartment/room inspections and assists clients in maintaining cleanliness of living spaces.
• Conducts ongoing rounds checks to ensure safety of each individual and the program.
• Administers breathalyzer tests and collects urinalysis samples when applicable.
• Documents shift logs in the electronic record per contract and agency policy.
• Develops and maintains relationships with providers, families, and natural supports.
• Responds to crisis situations and provides appropriate interventions per Nonviolent Practices policy.
• Supervises, monitors and documents self‑administration of client medications.
• Attends mandatory weekly DBT consultation meetings.
• Participates in monthly staff meetings, clinical rounds, All Treater meetings, and supervision.

• Maintains a clean, well‑organized work environment.
• Ensures all program egresses and walkways are clear to support workplace safety.
• Notifies supervisor of maintenance or safety issues and generates work orders as needed.
• Participates in fire and emergency evacuation drills and reviews emergency preparedness plan per agency policy.
• Participates in Food Bank activities as assigned.
• Stays awake during all shifts to maintain client and facility security and safety.

• Adheres to policies and practices outlined in the staff handbook and program operations manual.
• Consistently works in a respectful, constructive, and cooperative manner.
• Upholds HIPAA regulations and secures releases of information for outside communication.
• Models culturally competent behavior when interacting with clients, providers, families, and staff.
• Maintains accurate electronic records and case files in accordance with program, contractual, licensing, and accreditation requirements.
• Adheres to CarF standards of the Council on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
• Participates in agency committee work when available or permitted.
• Completes all required trainings per program contract and agency policy.
• Attends agency‑sponsored in services, outside trainings, conferences, and meetings to facilitate continued professional growth and ensure quality case‑management practices.

• High School Diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of one (1) year experience in a related healthcare field;
  Licensed CNA or other healthcare certification accepted in lieu of experience.
