Responsibilities
- Prepare, schedule, and conduct classroom and hands‑on training sessions for highway operations personnel within the assigned Maintenance District.
- Coordinate equipment for demonstrations, evaluations, and training exercises.
- Create and maintain training materials and employee training records.
- Conduct routine facility inspections for regulatory compliance and support District Safety Meetings.
- Collaborate with the Training Officer, district leadership, Safety Division, and Staff Development to achieve OTU and CTDOT objectives.
- Coordinate with external state agencies and vendors to support training initiatives.
- Must hold a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a tanker endorsement; a copy must be presented at interview.
- Must possess a valid Medical Examiner’s Card (MEC).
- Willingness to accept mandatory emergency overtime duties for snow and ice removal (November 1 – April 30) and to work during storm events as required.
- Must meet the 30‑mile residency requirement from the New Haven location.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in construction, landscaping, commercial driving, snow plowing, or maintenance of roadways, roadsides, bridges, or airports.
- At least one (1) year of that experience must involve the operation of complex equipment or skilled tasks.
- Graduation from a vocational or technical school with a diploma in a maintenance trade may substitute for two (2) years of general experience.
- Experience with public speaking and delivering in‑person training.
- Experience preparing training classes and lesson plans.
- Experience creating and reviewing presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and One Drive.
- Ability to prioritize work to meet time‑sensitive deadlines.
- Experience in highway maintenance and repair of roadways.
