Purpose

This position provides district coordination and support for the center-based and resource level Special Education programs and staff.

Position Responsibilities
  • Mentor, model, and coach new special education staff.
  • Attend IEP meetings and Evaluation meetings to mentor, model and coach special education staff on due process (IEP writing, evaluation writing).
  • Write IEP's, FBA's, BIP's and Evaluations.
  • Attend and monitor new teacher nights (4 times per year) and paperwork nights (1 time per month).
  • Meet regularly with special education staff in the building to ensure due process compliance for timelines (IEP's, progress reports, evaluations, transition, etc.) and provide technical assistance/feedback as needed.
  • Assist with the intake of special education students during the registration or transfer process.
  • Assist with training and implementation of Infinite Campus.
  • Assist with manifestation determination meetings as necessary; conduct file reviews and discuss situation with appropriate parties in order to provide input to staff on procedural requirements.
  • Serve as a conduit of due process information between the District office and Building staff.
  • Provide recommendation and direction in special education evaluation process.
  • Facilitate continuous program development and improvement for special education services.
  • Knowledge of evidenced based practices in academics and social emotional learning.
  • Develop strategies for maintaining a classroom environment conducive to student learning and utilizes effective teaching methods and employ a variety of instructional techniques appropriate to the age level, interests, and needs of the students.
  • Facilitate the process of collecting data for a more restrictive setting.
  • Facilitate the curriculum process and implementation of social skills and academic support curriculum for students in special education program.
  • Facilitate periodic center-base and resource meetings.
  • Assist school teams in individual student problem-solving and data-driven decisions.
  • Collaborate with other building or district special education coordinators to ensure consistency in programming and teaming.
  • Assist school teams in child study meetings.
  • Participate as a member of the District Special Education Leadership Team.
  • Attend regional and state meetings and trainings.
  • Collaborate with other district personnel to address the issue of cultural and socioeconomic impact on special education programming.
  • Advise Special Education Leadership of staff development needs. Plan and provide staff development activities.
  • Assist with the collection of data to identify program, staff, and facility needs.
  • Assist with EA schedules.
  • Assist with special education staff absences and revising schedules.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
Reports to
  • Director of Student Services
Training and Experience Requirements
  • Current MN special education teaching license
  • Minimum three years of experience as a special education teacher
  • Knowledge of special education due process
  • Experience providing large and small group professional learning
