Civil Construction Estimator – New Hyde Park, NY
Salary: $100,000–$150,000 | Full-Time | Hybrid Flexibility
A well-established civil construction firm in New Hyde Park, NY is seeking an experienced Estimator to support bidding, budgeting, and cost analysis for a wide range of civil and site development projects. This role requires strong technical estimating skills, the ability to work independently, and comfort collaborating with project teams and field personnel.
The position offers hybrid flexibility—the estimator may work primarily from home but must be able to visit the office and job sites as needed.
Role OverviewThe Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates, analyzing project documents, coordinating with subcontractors, and supporting the leadership team in developing competitive bids. This is a high-impact role that requires accuracy, strong communication, and deep knowledge of civil construction practices.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil, sitework, excavation, utilities, concrete, paving, and related scopes
- Review drawings, specifications, addenda, and project documents to determine scope and requirements
- Perform quantity takeoffs and develop cost breakdowns for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors
- Solicite, evaluate, and negotiate subcontractor and vendor pricing
- Develop bid proposals, budgets, and cost models for both public and private projects
- Analyze project risks, schedule impacts, and constructability considerations
- Collaborate with project managers, field supervisors, and leadership during preconstruction
- Participate in job site visits to assess conditions and validate assumptions
- Maintain historical cost data and support continuous improvement of estimating processes
- Civil construction estimating experience is required (site development, utilities, excavation, heavy civil, or related)
- Strong ability to read and interpret civil drawings, plans, and specifications
- Proficiency with estimating software and digital takeoff tools
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple bids simultaneously
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to visit job sites and the office as needed
- High level of professionalism, reliability, and integrity
- Salary: $100,000–$150,000, depending on experience
