Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Mine Maintenance Manager and the direct supervision of the Mine Maintenance Foreman, Mine Mechanic B does extensive level troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, repairs, and construction work in the mine.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Apply a working knowledge of most of the following: electric and gas welding, black smithing, rigging, electricity, pipe fitting, hydraulics, machine tool setup and operation, diesel or other internal combustion engines, sheet metal layout and working, heavy and light machinery repair, construction, maintenance and installation, etc.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and apply best practices to successfully repair and maintain surface equipment.
  • Replace parts on a scheduled basis.
  • Perform painting and carpentry work.
  • Assist mechanics of higher classifications and, within the capabilities, work alone or direct the work of others.
  • Interpret construction and installation instructions and read and work from some blueprints.
  • Perform routine tasks such as greasing, oiling, cleaning, and inspection of equipment, buildings, and attachments.
  • Work with and assist Mechanic Leadman on all types of work but under little or no supervision or guidance. Employee will perform such tasks as dismantling and reassembly of machinery, vertical welding, building and installing ordinary sheet metal piping, installing conduit, etc.
  • Dismantle and reassemble mobile and stationary equipment using hoists, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Comply with Good Manufacturing Practices and FDA regulations as directed.
  • Keep working area clean, neat, and orderly, and tools clean and in good repair.
  • Do other jobs of a related nature as directed.
  • Successful bidder must be a qualified Journeyman Mechanic.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

  • High school or equivalent education required
  • (2) to (3) years of experience in repair and maintenance of heavy equipment and general shop experience and training to qualify, or through the training program
  • Must already have or be able to obtain a blaster’s license during probationary period
  • Ability to use prints and manuals.
  • Experience working on hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work safely in varying temperatures in mine workplace, and outside year round
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 65+ pounds regularly
  • Must be able to wear steel-toed shoes and safety glasses
  • Must be able to work overtime as necessary
  • Must be able to work at heights as required
