Controller | Accounting & Finance

A growing, private equity-backed business services company is looking to add a Controller to its team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who wants to step into a true ownership role and expand beyond traditional accounting into broader Finance. This is a hands-on Controller position - ideal for someone who enjoys being close to the numbers, building processes, improving systems, and having a direct impact on the business.

What You'll Own

Accounting & Close

• Own the monthly close process, with a target of approximately 5-6 business days
• Prepare journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial statement support
• Oversee fixed assets, cutoff, completeness, and balance sheet activities
• Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial records

Accounts Payable

• Personally own meaningful AP responsibilities, including invoice entry/coding, PO support, vendor reconciliations, payments, and discrepancy resolution
• Identify opportunities to streamline, automate, and improve the AP process

Cash & Finance

• Monitor cash activity and provide cash visibility to leadership
• Support 13-week cash forecasting and working capital management
• Gain increasing exposure to budgeting, forecasting, and broader financial planning

Compliance

• Manage sales and use tax responsibilities
• Identify opportunities to improve and automate the sales-tax process

Systems & Process Improvement

• Help modernize accounting systems and processes as the company continues to grow
• Identify opportunities to leverage automation and technology to improve efficiency
• Play a key role in future systems implementation and ERP migration
• Bring ideas for how AI and other technology can improve the Finance function

What We're Looking For

• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Strong foundation in GAAP and core accounting principles
• Strong understanding of debits/credits, accruals, reconciliations, and financial statement mechanics
• Experience with the monthly close and ability to personally prepare journal entries
• Comfortable being hands-on, including with AP and transactional accounting
• Highly organized with strong follow-through and accountability
• Curious about technology, systems, automation, and process improvement
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, PE-backed environment
• Willing to work 5 days per week onsite in Gibbsboro, NJ
