Description

A busy firm in the Livingston area is seeking a Collections Specialist to join their growing firm. This Collections Specialist will get the chance to support accounts receivable and collections activities for a well known law firm. This Collections Specialist role requires a detail-oriented communicator who can work effectively with attorneys, legal support staff, clients, and finance colleagues while managing collection efforts with accuracy and discretion.

The ideal Collections Specialist is comfortable balancing independent follow-through with team collaboration and can use financial and Microsoft Office tools to keep payment activity, reporting, and documentation organized. Other responsibilities of this Collections Specialist will include but not be limited to:

Collections Specialist Responsibilities:

- Partner with attorneys, legal assistants, and finance team members to coordinate collection activity and address outstanding receivables.

- Communicate with clients regarding invoices, payment status, and past-due balances to help drive timely resolution of open accounts.

- Support assigned partners by monitoring accounts receivable and taking appropriate follow-up action on aging balances.

- Prepare recurring and ad hoc receivables reports for attorneys, clients, and leadership to support collection strategy and account review.

- Produce month-end and year-end collection summaries with a high level of accuracy and attention to deadlines.

- Generate and send reminder statements on a monthly basis to encourage prompt payment.

- Maintain complete, well-structured accounts receivable records and ensure documentation is current and easy to retrieve.

- Work closely with accounting personnel to resolve payment application issues, duplicate remittances, and matters involving funds held in trust.

- Document collection outreach and account updates in the firm's document management system to ensure clear tracking of activity.

This Collections Specialist role is paying between $75,000 and $90,000 annually depending on experience. If interested in this Collections Specialist position, apply today!

Requirements

- 5+ years of experience in collections, preferably within a services or legal environment.

- Strong background in commercial, consumer, and general credit and collections processes.

- Proven ability to communicate effectively with senior team members, administrative staff, clients, and internal finance teams.

- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.

- Experience working with financial and practice management systems such as 3E, or similar platforms.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive conversations effectively.

- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and contribute effectively within a collaborative team setting.
