Senior Director, Compound Development Team Leader

The Senior Director, Compound Development Team Leader (CDTL) is responsible for the development and execution of the compound strategy for selected molecular entities, leading a cross‑functional Compound Development Team (CDT). The CDTL oversees Phase 2b/3/3b/4 and post‑marketing clinical trials and other lifecycle management activities.
Duties and Responsibilities- Matrix leader of the cross‑functional CDT; works with TA leadership to develop compound strategy.
- Develops and maintains the program plan and provides research, analysis, and expertise for decision making.
- Manages successful cross‑functional execution of the project plan, negotiating deliverables with functional heads.
- Aligns the CDT to achieve goals through networks of people/functions.
- Identifies critical risks and assumptions; communicates them to CDT, functions, TA & Pharma governance committees, and senior management.
- Identifies issues; leads contingency planning and resolution of issues at all levels.
- Leads the communication of strategy and plans to governance committees, development partners, and key stakeholders.
- Responsible for reviewing medical publications emerging from the team and affiliates.
- Accountable for the compound or program budget.
- Works with function heads to select, set goals, mentor, and evaluate CDT members; provides input for performance evaluation.
- Executes program and manages deliverables and financials.
- May act, with senior clinical personnel, as company spokesperson on publication of clinical research findings and presentations to relevant health authorities.
- Develops credible relationships with scientific leaders and key regulatory officials.
- Advanced degree (Ph.D., M.D., M.B.A.) highly desirable.
- Minimum ten years of pharmaceutical industry or related experience; at least five to seven years of drug development experience.
- Experience in a leadership role within a multi‑functional R&D organization.
- Ability to integrate cross‑functional disciplines into a successful strategy and project plan.
- Understanding of requirements for successful commercialization of a new product.
- Expert knowledge of the drug development process and competitive environment.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to develop creative solutions to meet project objectives.
- Demonstrated influence, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, including influence without clear reporting authority.
- Significant work experience in a leadership position in a matrix environment.
- Strong planning and tracking skills.
- Strategic thinking and contingency planning with respect to Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine objectives.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
- Experience and knowledge of Good Clinical Practices and regulatory requirements for clinical trials and regulatory filings.
