Duties and responsibilities
Org. Setting and reporting the united nations human settlements programme (un-habitat) is mandated by the un general assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. Un-habitat is the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the un system. Un-habitat works with partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and communities. Un-habitat promotes urbanization as a positive transformative force for people and communities, reducing inequality, discrimination and poverty.
Currently, the program is headquartered in nairobi, kenya, and finds its support in the regional office for latin america and the caribbean - rolac, located in rio de janeiro, brazil which divides the work between the subregional offices in brazil and the southern cone, mesoamerica and the andean countries. The united nations human settlements program, un-habitat andean countries hub has been in colombia since 2003 promoting sustainable urban development.
Its purpose is to technically assist national and territorial governments and other social and academic actors in the implementation of the sdgs, in particular sdg 11 "sustainable cities and communities" and the precepts of the new urban agenda. For this matter, its actions are focused on the design, implementation and evaluation of urban public policies and urban planning instruments, using the best practices and knowledge accumulated in the country and in other parts of the world on topics such as planning, governance, economic development and urban finance, climate change, urban legislation and citizen participation.
Under the direct supervision of administrative and financial specialist and regional director and coordinator ic for andean countries, the intern will: responsibilities
• develop and implement a social media content calendar aligned with un-habitat's communication strategy.
• develop different media products (web, social media platforms, advertising promotion and broadcast media) to disseminate the results derived from un-habitat hub andean countries projects to different target audiences.
• create engaging social media posts (text, images, and videos) across multiple platforms (e.g., facebook, twitter, instagram, linkedin).
• monitor social media channels for engagement, comments, and mentions, responding appropriately.
• analyze social media performance metrics and provide recommendations for improvement.
• draft press releases, news articles, and other communications materials.
• support the development of communication materials, such as brochures, flyers, and presentations.
• contribute to the creation of visual content, including infographics, photos, and videos.
• assist in the design and layout of documents and publications.
• assist in the organization of media events and press conferences.
• support the development of communication plans and strategies.
• support the graphic and content coverage of hub andean countries events.
• support in the completion of journalistic reports on online and offline platforms on topics related to un-habitat hub andean countries with the purpose of incorporating the message and the topics of the campaign into all events and relevant products.
• in addition, he/she must perform other tasks assigned by the supervisor, as necessary.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with bachelor's degree, masters, phd or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (microsoft office suite).
