The Actors Studio of New Jersey seeks experienced, collaborative, and passionate Music Directors for upcoming Main Stage productions throughout the remainder of our 2026 season and our 2027 season.

We are looking for Music Directors who are excited to work in a professional, collaborative, artist-focused environment and help bring exceptional musical theatre to life. Our Musical Directors are an integral member of the creative team, responsible for the overall musical integrity of a production. Working closely with the Director, Choreographer, performers, musicians, and production team, the Music Director helps establish the musical language and ensures that the score is prepared and performed at the highest possible standard.

• Preparing and teaching vocal music to the cast.
• Leading music rehearsals and ensuring performers are confident with their vocal parts.
• Teaching harmonies, ensemble sections, and individual vocal material.
• Working collaboratively with the Director and Choreographer to integrate music, staging, and storytelling.
• Maintaining the musical integrity and artistic vision of the production.
• Preparing and leading the orchestra or pit musicians.
• Creating or overseeing vocal arrangements, cuts, transitions, and musical adaptations when required.
• Communicating effectively with performers, creative team members, and production staff.
• Conducting performances and/or serving as the production's musical leader as assigned.
• Supporting performers throughout the rehearsal and performance process.
• We are particularly interested in Music Directors who bring strong musicianship, excellent communication skills, collaborative instincts, and a genuine passion for musical theatre.

Main Stage rehearsal processes typically span approximately 3-4 weeks.

Rehearsals generally take place:

• Weekday evenings
• Weekend daytime hours

All rehearsals are held in Dunellen, New Jersey, approximately 50 minutes from New York City. Dunellen is accessible by NJ Transit and public transportation, making the rehearsal location accessible from throughout the New York metropolitan area.

Because of the rehearsal schedule and location, we are specifically seeking Music Directors from the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area who have reliable transportation and can consistently attend the full rehearsal process.

Experience with both traditional and contemporary musical theatre is welcome.
