Join Scotch Plains Fanwood Dental Care as an Orthodontic Assistant and be an integral part of our dedicated team! In this exciting role, you'll assist in providing top‑notch orthodontic care to our patients, ensuring they leave with beautiful smiles.

• Assist orthodontists during patient examinations and treatment procedures.
• Prepare and sterilize dental instruments and equipment.
• Take and develop dental radiographs (X‑rays).
• Assist in bonding, wire adjustments, bracket repairs, and routine adjustments (archwires, ligatures, springs).
• Take intraoral X‑rays, digital scans (e.g., iTero), and impressions for treatment planning.
• Ensure all orthodontic instruments are sterilized and treatment rooms are stocked.
• Educate patients on oral hygiene and appliance care, and advise on emergencies.
• Maintain patient records, manage appointment schedules, and handle inventory.
• Communicate effectively with patients and families.

• Technical proficiency in orthodontic anatomy, terminology, and equipment; ability to operate imaging gear.
• Manual dexterity for precise placement of orthodontic components.
• Strong communication; ability to build rapport with children and teens, explaining procedures simply.
• Organizational skills and multitasking to manage a fast‑paced clinical schedule.

• Education:
  
  High school diploma or GED; a certificate or associate degree in dental assisting with a focus on orthodontics is preferred.
• Certification:
  Certified Orthodontic Assistant (COA) from the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) preferred or required.
• Licensure:
  State‑specific requirements may include permits for taking X‑rays or performing expanded functions.
• Experience:
  
  Previous experience in orthodontics or dental assisting is a plus.
