Position Description
At Penn Medicine Princeton Health, we invite an accomplished Breast Surgeon to join our growing Cancer Center in Plainsboro, New Jersey as Medical Director of Breast Surgery. This leadership role combines oversight of an active and growing breast surgical practice with focus and commitment to the strategic growth, quality, accreditation, and multidisciplinary development of the Breast Program at Princeton and in collaboration with the Penn Medicine Abramson Cancer Center.
The Medical Director of Breast Surgery will serve as the physician leader for breast services across Princeton’s Cancer Center and help shape the future of breast care as Penn Medicine Princeton Health expands oncology services and prepares for the opening of the new Penn Medicine Princeton Cancer Center.
The Medical Director will provide clinical, strategic, and administrative leadership for the breast surgery program. This individual will drive program growth, guide service line development, serve as the clinical voice for breast surgery within the Cancer Center, and represent Penn Medicine Princeton Health in the Abramson Cancer Center’s clinical and research priorities.
Our breast team currently includes a breast surgeon, a breast surgery-specialized Advanced Practice Provider, and a shared multidisciplinary team including navigators, genetic counselors, social workers, chaplains, behavioral health specialists, and financial counselors. The Medical Director will lead this team and help shape its evolution as the program expands.
Leadership and Program Responsibilities
In addition to providing comprehensive breast surgical care, the Medical Director of Breast Surgery will provide physician leadership for the Breast Program, including strategic planning, program development, accreditation oversight, multidisciplinary care coordination, physician engagement, quality improvement, and regional growth of breast oncology services.
- Lead breast program strategy, planning, growth, and service development initiatives.
- Serve as the physician voice for breast surgery within the Cancer Center and across the Abramson Cancer Center.
- Chair and actively participate in Princeton’s multidisciplinary Breast Conferences, Tumor Board activities, and Breast Program governance forums.
- Actively participate in Abramson Cancer Center’s breast cancer tumor boards, breast cancer disease team, and breast cancer research initiatives.
- Lead Breast Workgroup meetings and partner with administrative and clinical leaders on program priorities.
- Support National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) accreditation oversight, maintenance, and readiness activities.
- Advance quality improvement, clinical outcomes, patient experience, and care standardization initiatives.
- Collaborate with Cancer Center and hospital leadership on long-range planning, operating performance, capital needs, equipment planning, and staffing considerations.
- Participate in physician recruitment, provider engagement, mentorship, and development of the breast care team.
- Support community outreach, education, referral development, and program visibility efforts.
- Promote clinical innovation, research participation, and multidisciplinary collaboration across the breast cancer continuum.
Clinical Responsibilities
The Medical Director of Breast Surgery will maintain an active clinical practice focused on the comprehensive evaluation and surgical management of benign and malignant breast disease.
