LEE AND CARMEN RUBIN SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: (All FRHSD Students)
This scholarship was created in honor of Lee Rubin, who is a former athlete and graduate of Manalapan High School and Penn State University, and his wife Carmen Rubin, a high school student-athlete who graduated from Rutgers University. Both Lee and Carmen reach back to their communities by providing assistance to those who are great students, exemplify desire and passion, has great character on and off the field and work hard at balancing life.
This scholarship is NOT based on financial need. It is effort based.
One (1) $500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating 12th grade minority Freehold Regional High School student. The award will be sent directly to the college/university and used to assist with college expenses for the first year of enrollment to the institution. Students must provide name, address and telephone number of the universities Bursar’s/Financial Aid office. Student must also provide student # so that the award can be applied to their account.
SelectionCriteria
- Recipient must be a graduating senior from the Freehold Regional High School District
- Recipient must be a minority student
- Recipient must have a 3.0 GPA
- Recipient must be actively involved in a sport and/or a job. (Volunteer work is acceptable).
- Applicant must submit a 500-750 word essay, and is accepted to a two or four year college;
- Essays must be articulate and answer the question thoroughly;
- Two letters of recommendation are required. One of those letters should be from the student’s coach.
A written “Thank You” note to Lee and Carmen Rubin will be required of the student before any money is disbursed to their college/university.
Scholarship recipients are selected by a committee and recognized at the end of the year Awards ceremony.
