Location: Mount Laurel

The Library Paraprofessional is responsible for the Polaris (automated) circulation system (charging, reserving, and discharging materials). Overseeing receipt of library charges including fines, etc. Registering library users and using electronic mail. This position will also maintain the serials online module on Polaris and use the campus wide network to assist with ILL request. The Library Paraprofessional will help patrons with using all various communication mediums and assign tasks to student workers.

This position collaborates with department members and/or the Compliance, Assessment and Research team to support planning, assessment, data collection and reporting for continuous improvement of the college.

This is a Support Staff Union position as stated in the Support Staff collective bargaining agreement Grade Level 9.

* Issue and receive library materials, including books, videos, compact discs, etc.

* Compile records of new magazines, newspapers; put new editions on display and shelve back issues

* Monitor subscription orders, claims, and missing or lost periodicals. Ensure magazines have been correctly logged in

* Assist with ILL requests

* Help schedule student assistants

* Sort and shelve materials, inspect returned materials for damage

* Register patrons; record name and/or address changes as required

* Provide answers to informational queries to patrons; help patrons with electronic resources, refer reference questions to information specialists

* Maintain library e-mail. Answer any electronic inquiries and other correspondences. Verify library barcodes online for students and staff

* Provide assistance to instructors on finding materials, books, videos, or reserving items for class

* Maintain ink/cartridges and paper supply on copier and computer equipment and instruct patrons on use of library equipment and campus wide network as needed

* Empty book drop and process returned materials

* Process books received from the county transit delivery. Place materials on hold and notify patrons by telephone or via email when materials are available

* Assist in setting up library displays. Make signs as needed for special projects and events

* Maintain general appearance of Library. Perform sweeps as required each hour and record head count and patron counts

* Responsible for compiling the work schedule each semester for student workers and maintaining records of student worker attendance. Direct student workers to complete library tasks each day such as shelving, patron record processing and other task as assigned

* Follow all opening procedures including turning on equipment and unlocking doors and cabinets

* Complete work orders for any maintenance problems or equipment needed for special events. Notify maintenance for any changes needed in the temperature of the library. Contact OIT for any problems with the computers

* Compile and enter data into Excel/google sheets for various use tallies.

* Perform other related duties as assigned

OVERALL PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:

The primary and most important overall responsibility of all employees is to provide service in a pleasant, helpful, and effective manner to our students and other members of the College community.

Education Required:

High School or equivalent Diploma required; MLIS/MI coursework preferred

Experience

Required:

One (1) year of library experience or applicable experience or MLIS/MI coursework

Skills/Abilities /Knowledge /Other Requirements

* Excellent customer service skills and problem-solving capabilities

* PC skills, including MS Office applications or google, internet, email, search engine proficiencies

* Telephone and written communication competency.
