Substitute Paraprofessional

• High School diploma; college level coursework in education or related field preferred
• Substitute Teaching Certificate Desired
• Minimum experience as determined by the Board
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and school staff.
• Possess the desire to work with and understand children with learning and behavioral changes.
• Physical Requirements:
  
  Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying, reaching, squatting/kneeling as appropriate to meet the physical demands of the educational setting
• Required criminal history check and proof of U.S. citizenship or resident alien status
• Current residency in New Jersey, approved residency waiver or candidate agrees to obtain residency within one year of employment

Certified Classroom Teacher, Principal and/or Supervisor of Special Services

To assist classroom teachers by working with individual and small groups of preschool and/or special education student or students to provide them with physical and emotional support as needed to gain optimum benefit from the district’s special education program.

Paraprofessionals will be placed based on student, building, program and District need. Paraprofessionals may have to be moved based on the overall needs of the District.

• 1. Assists in taking care of the physical needs of the special education pupil, including putting on and taking off outerwear, moving from room to room and using the lavatory.
• 2. Assists with individualized instruction and works with small groups of student and/or individual student under the supervision of the classroom teacher to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
• 3. Assists, where appropriate, in loading and unloading the special education student from transportation buses or vans.
• 4. Completes clerical duties as assigned by the classroom teacher.
• 5. Assist student(s) with various projects, crafts and curriculum tasks.
• 6. Helps with the supervision of children on field trips planned by the teacher.
• 7. Assists in playground supervision
• 8. Assists in breakfast/lunch duty
• 9. Engages children in conversation to encourage language development
• 10. Aids physically handicapped children, particularly those who rely upon appliances and prosthetics.
• 11. Participates in mandated and/or in service professional development as assigned
• 12. Assists in the collection of data on the student’s educational and behavioral program.
• 13. Implements behavior intervention plans and strategies to address challenging student behavior with students in collaboration with behaviorists.
• 14. Participates in training for crisis situations and implements intervention strategies accordingly when necessary.
• 15. Performs other appropriate duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or building principal directly related to a good learning experience for student(s).

Ten (10) month Salary to be established by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools and his/her designee and according to collective negotiations agreement. Per Diem Rate of $165.00
