Valid NJ Teacher Cerificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) or Standard Certificate

Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TSD) endorsement required

Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) endorsement preferred

POSITION SUMMARY

The Bordentown Regional School District invites applications for the anticipated position of Special Education Teacher in the Autism Program. This position provides structured, individualized educational programming for students diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in a self-contained or specialized setting. The Autism Program teacher designs instruction grounded in evidence-based practices for ASD, including applied behavior analysis (ABA) principles, structured teaching methodologies, and social-emotional learning frameworks.

The teacher collaborates with Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), related service providers, paraprofessionals, and families to implement comprehensive IEPs and support each student's communication, social, behavioral, and academic development in accordance with IDEA and NJAC 6A:14.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Instructional Responsibilities

Design and deliver structured, individualized instruction for students with ASD using evidence-based methodologies including discrete trial training (DTT), naturalistic developmental behavioral interventions (NDBIs), and structured teaching (TEACCH)

Develop and implement programs addressing communication, social skills, academic achievement, adaptive behavior, and independent functioning

Integrate AAC systems, visual supports, and assistive technology into daily instruction as specified in student IEPs

Implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) developed in collaboration with the assigned BCBA

Collect precise behavioral and academic data daily; use data to evaluate program effectiveness and guide instructional adjustments

IEP & Compliance Responsibilities

Develop and implement comprehensive IEPs addressing all areas of need including communication, behavior, academics, social skills, and transition

Facilitate and participate in IEP meetings, annual reviews, and reevaluations with the Child Study Team and families

Ensure all IEP documentation, progress reports, and service logs are accurate and completed on required timelines

Ensure FAPE is delivered in the most appropriate and least restrictive environment consistent with each IEP

Behavioral & Collaborative Responsibilities

Partner with the BCBA to develop, implement, and monitor individualized behavior support plans

Supervise and provide daily direction to paraprofessionals in the implementation of instructional programs

Collaborate with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and other related service providers to deliver integrated, student-centered programming

Maintain transparent, consistent communication with families regarding student progress, program implementation, and home-school consistency strategies

Participate in transition planning for students of transition age, with focus on functional independence, vocational skills, and community integration

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of ASD characteristics, evidence-based practices, and the New Jersey ASD frameworks

Familiarity with ABA including reinforcement, prompting hierarchies, data collection, and behavior management

Understanding of IDEA, Section 504, and NJAC 6A:14 as applicable to students with ASD

Experience with or knowledge of AAC systems, visual supports, and structured teaching environments

Ability to implement and monitor behavior intervention plans in collaboration with a BCBA

Strong data collection skills and ability to use data to drive instructional and behavioral programming decisions

Patience, flexibility, and a deep commitment to serving students with ASD and their families

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience teaching students with ASD in a public school self-contained or specialized program setting

Experience implementing PECS, Proloquo2

Go, LAMP, or other AAC systems

Training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) or similar safety management framework

Familiarity with social skills curricula (e.g., Social Thinking, PEERS, Zones of Regulation)
