Elementary Innovation and Design Teacher (STEM) / GATE
Overview: Seeking a teacher to lead a comprehensive PK-4 Innovation, Design, and Computer Science program aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Computer Science and Design Thinking, Engineering, and Technology. The teacher will foster creativity, collaboration, problem solving, computational thinking, and innovation through hands-on learning experiences that integrate engineering, robotics, coding, and gifted enrichment opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Holds a valid New Jersey Integrative STEM and Technology teaching certificate or equivalent certificate.
- Has proven experience in applying design thinking principles and methodologies.
- Has experience in project-based learning and technology integration.
- Has a strong understanding of the NJSLS for Design Thinking, Computer Science, and Engineering.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills.
- Demonstrates ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, administrators and others
- Successfully completes required criminal history check and has proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Performance Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Development & Instruction
• Design and implement engaging, hands-on learning experiences aligned with the NJSLS for Computer Science and Design Thinking, Engineering, and Technology for Grades K-4.
• Develop and maintain a vertically aligned K-4 scope and sequence that builds foundational skills in engineering, coding, robotics, computational thinking, digital citizenship, and design thinking.
• Facilitate project-based and inquiry-based learning experiences that encourage creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and innovation.
• Integrate literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies concepts into authentic design challenges and engineering experiences.
• Collaborate with Green Brook Middle School staff to create a seamless K-8 Innovation and Design learning experience.
• Design and facilitate enrichment and gifted learning opportunities that promote advanced problem solving, creativity, and innovation. - Computer Science, Robotics, and Emerging Technology
• Teach age-appropriate computer science concepts including algorithms, sequencing, loops, debugging, conditionals, and computational thinking.
• Implement robotics, coding, and physical computing experiences using a variety of instructional tools and platforms.
• Introduce students to emerging technologies and digital creation tools that support innovation and problem solving.
• Promote responsible, ethical, and safe technology use. - Innovation and Design Lab Management
• Manage and maintain a safe, organized, and engaging Innovation and Design Lab.
• Maintain classroom space tools, robotics equipment, engineering materials, fabrication tools, and technology resources.
• Establish and monitor safety procedures for all tools, materials, and equipment.
• Develop plans for continuous growth and enhancement of the Innovation and Design program and learning environment. - Family and Community Engagement
• Plan and facilitate family engagement opportunities including Innovation and Design Nights, STEM events, student showcases, and community learning experiences.
• Foster partnerships with community organizations, educational institutions, and industry professionals to enhance student learning opportunities.
• Promote student innovation and celebrate student learning through public exhibitions and presentations. - Technology Integration and Collaboration
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate technology, engineering, and design thinking into classroom instruction.
• Serve as a resource for innovative instructional practices and technology-enhanced learning experiences.
• Participate in curriculum review, revision, and district initiatives related to technology integration and STEM education.
• Stay current with emerging trends and research in computer science education, engineering, design thinking, educational technology.
• Attend professional learning opportunities that support program growth and innovation.
• Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and administrators.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Terms of
Employment: Ten month contract within the Agreement between the Green Brook Board of Education and the Green Brook Township Education Association.
Evaluation Criteria: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with NJ State law and the provisions of the board's policy on evaluations.
Salary: Commensurate with experience
