Acorn Montessori School is seeking a dedicated and collaborative Elementary Teacher's Assistant to support our Montessori classroom serving elementary-aged children. This role is ideal for someone who values child-centered education, thrives in a team environment, and is eager to contribute to a purposeful and well-prepared learning space.
Position OverviewThe Teacher's Assistant works closely with the Lead Teachers to support the daily functioning of the classroom and to help maintain a calm, orderly, and engaging Montessori environment. This role includes student supervision, classroom preparation, and responsive support to meet the evolving needs of the children and classroom community.
Key Responsibilities- Support the Lead Teacher in maintaining a prepared Montessori environment
, including organizing materials, replenishing supplies, and assisting with classroom setup and care - Supervise and assist students throughout the school day while fostering independence, responsibility, and respect
- Model and uphold grace and courtesy
, helping to sustain a positive classroom culture - Observe student needs and communicate effectively with the Lead Teacher to support individualized learning
- Assist with daily routines such as snack preparation, classroom organization, and light cleaning
- Contribute to conference preparation, staff meetings, and school events
- Ensure a safe, clean, and orderly environment for all students
- Support classroom pets and general classroom upkeep
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and respectful communication with students, families, and colleagues
- Participate in additional school programming days as needed (with additional compensation for designated dates)
- Work closely with the Lead Teacher to support student learning and classroom goals
- Communicate observations and relevant information about students and classroom needs
- Engage positively with families while directing key communications through the Lead Teacher
- Contribute to a collegial and respectful faculty culture
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Successful completion of required background checks
- Commitment to ongoing professional development
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Alignment with Montessori philosophy and values
- Ability to sit on the floor, use low seating, and move actively throughout the classroom
- Ability to lift and move classroom materials and furniture (with assistance as needed)
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions during recess and activities
- Comfort with basic technology and a willingness to grow in digital proficiency
- Maintain professional appearance and demeanor appropriate for an educational setting
- Demonstrate punctuality, reliability, and discretion
- Engage in reflective practice and ongoing personal and professional growth
