General Description
The Culinary Chef Instructor and Steward reports directly to the Culinary Arts Program Director and serves a dual role in instructional delivery and culinary operations management. This position is responsible for maintaining culinary laboratories, managing inventory and purchasing functions, supporting curriculum development, providing classroom and laboratory instruction, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all culinary facilities. The successful candidate will contribute to student success through high-quality instruction, mentorship, and active participation in program initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Assist in the development, revision, and implementation of Culinary Arts, Hospitality, and Baking & Pastry Arts curriculum, course materials, and lesson plans.
* Deliver both theoretical and hands-on instruction in culinary and baking techniques through demonstrations, lectures, and supervised laboratory experiences.
* Evaluate student performance and maintain assessment data to support program learning outcomes and accreditation requirements.
* Foster a positive learning environment that promotes student engagement, professionalism, and academic success.
* Mentor and advise students regarding academic progress, career opportunities, internships, and industry expectations.
* Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and security standards within culinary laboratories and storage areas.
* Monitor and maintain kitchen facilities, equipment, and inventory to ensure proper operation, cleanliness, and functionality.
* Assist with the development and management of the Culinary Arts Stewarding Department, including receiving, storage, distribution, and inventory control procedures.
* Coordinate purchasing activities, place orders with approved vendors, receive deliveries, and maintain accurate inventory records.
* Process and fulfill food, beverage, equipment, and supply requisitions for instructional laboratories and special events.
* Participate in student recruitment activities, open houses, community outreach events, and program promotion initiatives.
* Collaborate with faculty and staff to support departmental goals, special projects, special events, and college-wide initiatives.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the Culinary Arts Program Director or College administration.
* Work a Maximum of 29 hours per week.
Required Qualifications
* Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) or Associate of Occupational Studies (A.O.S.) degree in Culinary Arts, Baking and Pastry Arts, or a closely related field required; bachelor's degree preferred.
* Minimum of Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional culinary experience in hospitality, food service, or fine dining operations.
* Previous teaching, training, or instructional experience in culinary education preferred.
* Demonstrated knowledge of culinary techniques, baking and pastry fundamentals, food production, purchasing, inventory management, and kitchen operations.
* Serv Safe Food Protection Manager Certification or equivalent certification preferred.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and inventory management systems.
* Strong organizational, administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population and maintain a professional learning environment.
Physical Requirements
* Ability to stand for extended periods in a commercial kitchen environment.
* Ability to lift and move supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
* Ability to work in environments with varying temperatures and exposure to commercial kitchen equipment.
The completion of a background check will be required for the selected candidate.
Compensation:
Compensation is determined by a variety of criteria, including but not limited to, previous relevant experience, education level, and certifications. The hourly pay range for this position is $35-$40.
