Location: Verona

Verona Public Schools is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher at Laning Avenue School.

This is a tenure-track position for the  school year.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with general education teachers, child study team members, administrators, families, and support staff to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), participate in IEP meetings, and support students in accessing the New Jersey Student Learning Standards and district-approved curriculum.

Responsibilities include:
  • Developing rigorous, standards-aligned lesson plans and learning activities
  • Implementing IEPs, 504 Plans, I&RS plans, NJTSS plans, and other student support plans as written
  • Using student data, formative assessments, and summative assessments to inform instruction
  • Providing accommodations, adaptations, and differentiated instruction based on student needs
  • Maintaining accurate records of student progress and communicating with families
  • Participating in IEP meetings, faculty meetings, committees, and school-level planning
  • Collaborating with colleagues to assess and address student learning needs
  • Maintaining a positive, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment
Qualifications:
  • Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate as an Elementary School Teacher (#1001) and appropriate Teacher of Students with Disabilities (#2475) certification/endorsement, or eligibility
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective instructional practices and student support strategies
  • Ability to maintain a positive and productive learning environment
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status

10-month position

Start date:

August 31, 2026 (2 days of New Staff Orientation on August 26-27)
