Florence Township School District Mentors
As part of the NJDOE requirements, we are preparing to assign mentors for new staff members joining us in September who hold a Certificate of Eligibility (CE) or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS). Mentors play a vital role in supporting new educators as they transition into the profession and our school community. We are currently seeking official mentors for the following areas:
District locations:
- Preschool Education (PEA) 1 position Roebling Elementary School
- Special Education Riverfront School
- Special Education - 2 positions
- Social Studies
- English
- General Education (Math/Science focus) FTMHS
- Spanish
- Business
- Chemistry
- Psychology
To be approved as a mentor, you need to meet the following requirements:
Mentor Requirements (per NJDOE):
- Must hold a Standard New Jersey teaching certificate
- Have at least 3 years of full-time teaching experience (it is not required that the years are in FTSD)
- Demonstrate effective teaching as reflected in evaluation data
- Be willing to attend mentor training and participate in required program documentation
As well, we are looking for mentors who can:
- Provide ongoing guidance and support throughout the school year
- Meet regularly (weekly or bi-weekly) with your mentee
- Assist with lesson planning, classroom management, and professional growth
- Maintain a log of mentoring hours and activities (required for state documentation)
- Support your mentee in preparing for and navigating the Provisional Teacher Process
- Submit documentation as required by the mentoring program
If selected, you will be required to attend mentor training in August (date to be determined). Mentors are compensated, with payment made by the mentee as part of the state process.
