Special Education Teacher
William Annin Middle School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher for a full-time, tenure-track position. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment that meets the diverse needs of students with disabilities. This role requires collaboration with general education teachers, parents, and support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that promote academic, social, and emotional growth.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to provide accommodations and modifications that support the learning of students with disabilities in the mainstream classroom.
- Assess and evaluate student progress through formal and informal assessments, adjusting instructional strategies as necessary.
- Create a positive and engaging classroom environment that promotes respect, inclusion, and a love for learning.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and any concerns.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to the development of educational strategies and support services.
- Provide training and support to staff on best practices for working with students with special needs.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, IEP documentation, and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Engage in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education and related fields.
Requirements:
- Valid state certification/license in Special Education.
- Experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of IEP development and implementation, as well as special education laws and regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to meet diverse learning needs.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
