Subject And Project DescriptionThis doctoral position relates to the area of evacuation in emergency scenarios, focusing in particular on people with disabilities. This is linked to so-call Egressibility, i.e. accessibility to means of evacuation for everyone. In particular, this doctoral position refers to the collection and analysis of data related to the evacuation of vulnerable groups with the intention to find solutions assisting the target group during emergency evacuation.
The project will include a range of methodological approaches (e.g. interviews, vignette experiments, AI-based modelling) for the study of human behaviour in emergency evacuation scenarios. The PhD project is linked to an ongoing grant from the European Research Council on Egressibility (ERC Consolidator Grant "Egressibility"). Research in this field is performed in relation to the Helsingborg Safety Hub. The main office location is in Campus Helsingborg.
Duties
You will primarily devote yourself to your doctoral programme, which includes participation in research projects as well as third cycle courses, seminars and conferences. The work duties can also include teaching and other departmental duties (no more than 20%). You are also expected to go to conferences, nationally and internationally, to present your work and discuss with peers.
QualificationsTo be eligible for admission and employment as a doctoral student, you must fulfil the requirements below.
Admission RequirementsA person meets the general admission requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes if the applicant:
- has been awarded a second-cycle qualification, or
- has satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the second cycle, or
- has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.
A person meets the specific admission requirements for third cycle studies in Fire Safety if the applicant has:
- a BSc in Fire Protection Engineering comprising 210 credits, or
- a second-cycle degree in a relevant field.
In order to complete the doctoral programme in question, the following are also required:
- good ability to take own initiative and ability to drive work forward
- good ability to work independently and to formulate and tackle research problems.
- good written and oral communication skills
- good ability to cooperate
- very good knowledge of English, spoken and written
- knowledge related to the field of evacuation
For the doctoral programme in question, the following are considered as other qualifications:
- knowledge and experience related to the collection and analysis of evacuation data
- previous thesis work related to the subject area

About The EmploymentThe employment is a fixed-term employment at full time, starting as agreed. The position is mainly located in Campus Helsingborg. Third cycle studies at LTH consist of full-time studies for 4 years. In the case of teaching and other departmental duties, the employment is extended accordingly. Doctoral studentships are regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100), chapter 5, 1-7 §§.
