Location: Vernon
Job Goal
To provide an approved physical education program and establish a class environment that fosters learning and personal growth; to help pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continued education; and to maintain good relationships with parents and other staff members.
Responsibilities- Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms, dance, and individual, dual, or team sports, utilizing curriculum designated by Vernon Township School District and other appropriate learning activities.
- Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of Vernon Township School District.
- Work cooperatively with other physical education/health teachers in planning and implementing a balanced physical education and health program.
- Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
- Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the division's basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course and NJ standards; provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
- Provide appropriate safety instruction and make safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
- Evaluate academic and social growth of students, prepare report cards, and keep appropriate records, including attendance reports, checklists, and other record‑keeping activities as necessary.
- Maintain control of storage and use of school property.
- Evaluate each student's growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution in team sports.
- Communicate with parents, teachers, and school counselors on student progress.
- Supervise students in out‑of‑classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Participate in curriculum development activities, faculty meetings, and school‑level planning.
- Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy.
- Perform other duties within the scope of employment and certification as may be assigned.
Salary and work year to be determined as mutually agreed upon in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Salary Range: $150 per day for the first 19 days, followed by a per diem rate of $286.65 to $344.95 per day from day 20 onwards, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
